| 520 | |a An den Earl of Shrewsbury, "president of our Counsell in the north", und an seine Räte, die in Kent unter der Führung von Thomas Wyatt ausgebrochene, gegen ihre Vermählung mit Philipp II. gerichtete Rebellion betreffend. “Right trusty and rigth welbeloved cousin and trusty and welbeloved we grete you well / And let you wit that where of late Petre Carewe and sume other evill disposed persones dyd procure by spreding abrode most falce and vayne rumours, to stirre our loving subiects of our counties of Devon and Cornewall to rebellion, which theyr unnaturall practisse lyke as (god be thanked) it could there take no place, our loving subiects being in those partes more mindefull of theyr duties of obedience towards us, then outlined to followe those sedicious conspiracions. So neverthelesse hath Thomas wiat and sume others with Hym uppon hope that the sayd rebellion in devon wold have taken place, attempts of hate by spreading abrode of lyke falce rumours, to rayse our subiects of our countie of Kent against us our crowne and dignitie / For the repression and overthrowe of which rebellion . .. we have allredy taken suche others as shall (we doubt not) be sufficient both to stay our loving subiects in quiet, and to subdue suche others as have stirred this practise ..."
