Using all possible ordinary materials, Fischer creates unhierarchical collages of objects and thoughts, high and low aesthetics, mundane and artistic memories, and personal and political interrogation. The publication has been designed by Scipio Schneider in collaboration with the artist, and laid out in printed form as a studio journal. Asked for a contribution, the London-based composer, engineer, and consultant Garrick Jones (*1965) wrote seven piano studies and a suite for strings and oboe inspired by Fischer's work. Il se consacre essentiellement aux techniques traditionnelles du dessin, de la sculpture et de la peinture, mais son œuvre, à la fois puissante et lyrique, se développe à contre courant des canons esthétiques. Assemblant des objets et des matériaux divers, mêlant des références sociales et artistiques, des questionnements personnels et des thèmes politiques, le travail d'Urs Fisher consiste en une entreprise de défamiliarisation des situations et des objets quotidiens qui ouvre des perspectives inédites sur un monde étrange. Urs Fischer a notamment présenté des expositions monographiques au Institute of Contemporary Art, Londres (2000), au Stedeljik Bureau, Amsterdam (2000), à la Kunsthaus Glarus (2000), au Santa Monica Museum of Art (2003)...
